William Tomlinson, PhD || Director of Artificial Intelligence, Plymouth Rock Assurance

William Tomlinson is a proven servant technical leader with over a decade of industry experience in hardware and software development and leading large-scale interdisciplinary technical initiatives. Currently, William serves as a Director of Artificial Intelligence (AI) at Plymouth Rock Assurance, where he plays a key role in shaping enterprise-wide AI strategy while leading the execution and delivery of innovative products and solutions that bring that strategy to life through the application of cutting-edge AI technologies.

Prior to this role, William served as the Director of the Software & Application Innovation Lab (SAIL) at Boston University, the institution’s professionally staffed software engineering firm. There, he was responsible for overseeing operations, shaping, and implementing long-term strategic plans, managing organizational growth, and developing new opportunities and partnerships. Before joining SAIL, William held the roles of Principal Engineer and Group Leader (technical manager) for the Embedded & Communications Systems Group at Draper Laboratory (Cambridge, MA). In this role, he demonstrated proficiency in business development, strategic planning, program management, and the development of mission-critical systems for wireless communications.

William received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Northeastern University and an M.S. and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University and North Carolina A&T State University, respectively.
