Sole Train is a program of Trinity Boston Connects (TBC) that fosters mentorship, goal setting, and community-building through noncompetitive running weekly after school.

Join Sole Train’s Young and Old Soles on Saturday, October 3rd, for an energized afternoon of community, fun, and sole at the Sole Train 5K! Check out our race info below to learn how you can get in on the action. Your participation raises funds to support our year-round programming, currently reaching 150+ Young Soles and 40 Old Soles.

 9:00 am – Check-in opens

  – Pick up your bib & enjoy light breakfast before the run/walk begins

9:45 am – Gather for program & warm up

10:00 am – Race begins

11:30 am – Post Run Celebration

  – Stick around for lunch, music, lawn games, and family-friendly fun!

12:30 pm – Have a wonderful rest of your day!

Getting to the Moakley Park Picnic Area

MBTA

Moakley Picnic Area Address: 450 Old Colony Ave, South Boston, MA 02127

MBTA Red Line: 0.3 mile walk (9 min) from the JFK/UMass stop

MBTA Commuter Rail: Take the Greenbush Line to JFK/UMass stop

MBTA Bus: 0.2 mile walk (5 min) from Bus 16, Old Colony Ave & Gavin Way stop. The 10, 11, 13, and CT3 buses also all have stops close to Moakley Park.

Bicycling

Moakley Park can be reached in under 15 minutes by bicycle from South Boston, Fort Point, Upham’s Corner, and Savin Hill and in under 30 minutes from surrounding neighborhoods including Downtown Boston, Chinatown, Dorchester Center, and Jamaica Plain.

Bluebikes stations can be found near the entrance to the busway at the JFK/UMass station, in front of the Tierney Community Center on Columbia Road, and at Bike Town on Day Blvd (across from the Carson Beach Bathhouse)

Driving

Parking at is VERY LIMITED. Attendees are advised to use public transit, bicycle, or arrange for a drop-off. Small parking lots can be found near Saunders Stadium on Columbia Road, at the north end of the park by the roller hockey rink, and at DCR’s Carson Beach on William J. Day Boulevard. Both lots include accessible parking spaces for people with disabilities. There is also limited curbside parking along Columbia Road.

FAQ

Where do I go when I arrive? 

Please check in at the Registration Tent to receive your bib. Light breakfast and refreshments will be provided. Volunteers will be available to answer any questions you may have. A brief program will begin at 9:45 am before kickoff.

Will there be a water stop?

Yes, a water stop will be located near the 1.5 mile mark. 

Is there any food provided?

Yes! Pre-Race: Granola bars and fruit will be available for a pre-race snack. Post-Race: Pizza and sweet treats!

What if I need to use the restroom? 

Two porta-potties will be available at the Moakley Park Picnic Area. 

What do I do with my things while I’m walking/running? 

We kindly ask that you limit the number of items you bring or ask a friend / family member to hold your items during the run. However, you may leave your bag at the Registration Tent if desired. Items will not be locked and are not the responsibility of the event organizers in the event that they are lost or stolen. 

What is there to do before/after the race?

Pre-Race: Check in at the Registration Tent, grab a bite, participate in our pre-race warm-up, and enjoy the music and community joy! Post-Race: Have a slice of pizza, play games, take part in crafts, and cheer the runners on!
